First of all there are some things that you should know about wedding bouquets. Historians think that the tradition of the brides throwing their wedding bouquets derives from the ancient Greek myth for The Golden Apple of Discord. The Greek goddess Eris threw a golden apple in front of Aphrodite, Athena and Hera. On the apple was written "to the fairest", which provoked a dispute between the goddesses; because each of them thought she is the one.

The tradition of throwing wedding bouquets has evolved from this myth. Women gather and wait for the brides to throw their wedding bouquets, because they believe that whoever catches them is going to have the same destiny - to get married. It is essential part of the whole ceremony.

Wedding bouquets are most often made of white roses. This color stands for purity, innocence and honor - qualities which a young bride must have. You can choose a different color for the roses. Red roses symbolize love. Pink roses symbolize joyfulness and admiration. Yellow roses symbolize happiness, but they are not a good choice for wedding bouquets, because they traditionally are used for presents between friends. Still if the color goes nice with your dress you don't have to worry for the meaning. Orange roses represent passion.

If you are not into roses that much, there are other options for wedding bouquets. You can make wedding bouquets from callas. They are also traditionally used for wedding bouquets.

Orchids, roses, lilies and tropical flowers are available during the whole year. You can use seasonal flowers for wedding bouquets:

Spring - Lilac, Iris, Daffodils, Tulip, Gerber daisies, Wax-flower, Boronia

Summer - Sunflower, Freesia, Chrysanthemum, Orchid, Forget-Me-Not, Zinnia

Autumn - Dahlia, Arum, Gladioli, Dendrobium, Hydrangea

Winter - Amaryllis, Calla lilies, Magnolia, Red or white roses, Skimmia, Ilex berry, Jasmine

You should keep in mind what the color and design of your dress is or what color ornaments it has if there are any. Usually it is white, but the shape of the flowers must correspond with the design of the dress. If it is not white the wedding bouquets should be in the matching color.

If the dress is red look for wedding bouquets made of red roses, tulips, gladiolas and gerberas.

If the wedding dress is purple look for wedding bouquets made of irises, tulips again and violets.
